Growing up Michelle Chase felt she had to prove herself to her parents. Chase knew that higher education was the first step. Born and raised in Prince George’s County she was ready to leave Maryland and become independent. She was accepted to Wells College in New York her senior year in high-school.
Although Chase enjoyed school in New York, she felt that her major did not suit her, so she knew she had to make a change. “I didn’t feel it, my heart was not there [as a Business Major],” said Chase, and instead decided to pursue her true passion. She couldn’t handle talking about the stock market, but with her love of the E-Channel she desired to become a publicist or reporter in fashion and entertainment.
Chase knew the perfect degree for her passion was a communication degree in journalism; However, Wells College did not offer this degree. Despite her friends and her love for New York, it was clear to Chase that she had to be happy and proud of her education. She began looking back at schools in Maryland. When Chase set her eyes on Salisbury University, she knew her heart was set. “Salisbury is close to the beach, but not too far away from home and they had my degree [of Communication: Journalism],” said Chase on choosing Salisbury University. Another reason for her decision for switching schools and degrees are the various career opportunities that a communication degree offers.
Starting her junior year at a new school was difficult on Chase. “I’m somewhat lonely here, I miss my dance team from New York,” she said, but fortunately she had the opportunity to keep her passion for dancing and meet new friends. Chase was able to join the pom-dance team, and also decided to minor in dance at Salisbury as well. Even though she left behind her friends at Wells College, Chase has made new friends, and is satisfied with her decision to follow her dreams.
Chase enjoys the class sizes, smaller campus, and the professors at Salisbury. She said, “I will stay with communication degree because it’s not boring.” Chase feels like her decision to come to Salisbury has made her parents proud, “They’re happy that I’m closer to home, saving out of state tuition fees, and that I am finally doing something I feel passionate about.”
The road to Salisbury was bumpy; Chase figured out that she had to make sacrifices to be truly happier. By changing schools and leaving her friends in New York, Chase has made new ambitions. “I want to join the Air Force as an officer, and then go back to get my masters Degree in communication,” said Chase. Even if Air Force puts her dreams on hold, she still hopes to become a publicist or journalist. She is relieved that her parents supported her decision, and that being at a new school is giving her a fresh slate.

Kyle Maduro is an avid skater and can be seen cruising around on campus daily. Although with our recent winter storm, he said, “this weather is pissing me off, all I want to do is go out and skate, but I can’t skate on ice.”
Ever since his birth way-back in 1991 Kyle knew he would become a skateboarder. At the age of 10 he received his first skateboard as a gift. When asked why he started skateboarding he claims it was all for the wrong reasons, “It started to pick up again, becoming more popular, so I thought it was the cool thing to do.” This may have been the reason he started back then, but now the skateboard fever runs through his entire body like wildfire.
When Kyle was younger he regretted letting people walk all over him, and wishes he could’ve had the same strength to stand up for himself that he has now. When asked if he could change his previous ways he answered, “I really wish I could’ve learned how to control my fear because it really held me back from developing and skating at a higher level now.”
Kyle enjoys being a freshman at Salisbury. Life before Salisbury was little rough, and when asked why he said, “I used to be an outcast for most of my life, and that really sucked.” Luckily he now has a group of friends and he and his roommate get along fairly well. Everyone has room to improve and when asked if he was happy with the way his first semester went, “No, I could spend more time a 2.9 isn’t good enough.” He said to improve as a student in his second semester he would, “Study more, watch T.V. less, and not save papers for the last minute.”
Skateboarding is one of Kyle’s favorite hobbies, but he also is a music fanatic. He enjoys all music but his favorite genre is punk. Kyle claims that, “Real punk music is a lifestyle not that Greenday bullsh*t or Blink 182, they’re not punk.” His all-time favorite song and band is, Been in D.C. by Bad Brains. “There’s really nothing better than listening to some quality punk and beating the sh*t out of people in a mosh pit.” One of his goals is to, “I…I…just want to bring back punk music from the brink of extinction, that’s where it’s at right now.” When asked if that is all, he said, “That’s it.”
Kyle takes from the stereotypical skater image and adds his own twist. He wants to skate until he can’t anymore, “I’m eventually going to be one of those old guys tearing up sh*t at the skate park with a nice tranny.” He claims that he will listen to punk music forever, and if there aren’t any bands doing it by the time he’s an old man, he will make music himself. His motto on life, “Just like… make music and skate every day.” Not everyone was meant to feel like an outcast, and Kyle’s concrete evidence on this fact. He hopes to one day nail his favorite trick on his skateboard, “Indy-nosebone because it’s just like so bada*s.” Here’s to you Kyle. Keep all four wheels on the ground and the punk music blaring.
Stay Classy!

Dear Faithful Readers,
I know you don't exist as of now, but when the time comes and you start realizing how AWESOME I am. There are a lot of blogs within the inter-web environment and it is hard to stand out. I think there's an estimated 70,000+ blogs created daily. That doesn't include the already billions of blog pages that are sitting idle. I promise that as soon as I decide the direction my blog will follow it will always stay consistent and updated. I'm guessing there isn't anyone reading this right now and that's fine. For anyone that actually reads this which if anyone will probably be my supportive girlfriend, I say thank you! And surely there will be more to come from me. Happy February only 11 more days until my life is changed forever... forever!

Last week, a new report delivered depressing news: After 15 years of decline, the teen pregnancy rate rose three percent among 15 to 19 year olds.
Could it be attributed to the popular TV series that story-lines through teenage pregnancy? Or maybe Bush's abstinence campaign while he was in office. Regardless, it's downright sad. This series started as 5 or so high-school aged girls and their deadbeat boyfriends had one main issue. PREGNANCY. A lot of this goes into the fact that these people are uneducated, immature, and just plain lazy. IT IS NOT THAT HARD TO WRAP IT UP.
I've watched just about every episode of this show with my girlfriend. That may make me an un-manly-man but hell, I know it's hard to work to have children. I get so frustrated even with my little sisters of the age of 4 and a little over a year. I couldn't even imagine having to go through what these teenagers are. So to me at least this show is a good inspiration to other males why you do not want to have children, unless you are 100% capable of supporting one.
What's more depressing about this show is how emotionally distraught each and every pregnancy case is. You have crazy ass Amber, spoiled rotten Farrah, good-ole country girl Maci, and Shrek's action double Catelynn. Don't even get me started on all their ridiculous boyfriends. I have a little respect for Tyler, but even though he is the nicest, his white trashy down-bringing and tattoo of "his" daughters foot makes me ill. That's enough of this rant, so go ahead and check out this article about MTV's hit series Teen Mom.

One of my roommates always picks a good movie for everyone to watch and last night was no exception! When he asked everyone if we wanted to watch Moon we didn't know how to take it, but everyone agreed so we started it at about 11 PM. Moon is a classy sci-fi, thriller, and a mystery all wrapped into one. It has won numerous indie movie awards. If you like sci-fi movies, I recommend this flick, but I'm not going to give away the plot in anyway. This was one of the first movies I had seen in awhile where I wasn't exactly sure what was going to happen next. I did feel though it was a little rushed and I would've liked for them to have developed the characters a little more. For a movie that basically stars one actor on scene it was fantastic. Although if you like big bangs and lots of flashiness this movie may not be for you. If you like movies that truly make you think and piecing together a sort of puzzle, this movie is for you! We all need a little Gerdy in our lives, and boy-oh-boy was the robot a shockathon.
Go out and rent this one today!
